The legal process known as society registration in India formalizes a group of people who have come together for a shared goal, such as culture, sports, education, or charity. This registration, which is governed by the Societies Registration Act, 1860, gives the society legal standing and permits it to enter into contracts, hold property, and open bank accounts. It improves accountability, openness, and credibility all of which are critical for grants and fundraising. The Registrar of Societies requires yearly reports and regular accounting from a registered society.
