What is Bronchitis? Bronchitis is an inflammation of the large breathing tubes (bronchi) in the lungs. It is a common respiratory disease that causes coughing, difficulty in breathing, discharge of mucus, and pain in the chest. An acute form of bronchitis is caused by viral agents like cold, or influenza. Acute bronchitis can turn chronic if one gets repeated attacks of acute bronchitis.
